Purpose

You will complete four (4) Education Battles in the semester, write an education Blog Post, and write a modified Education Policy Analysis in the course. Each Battle is designed to help you interact critically with the course content so that you may build your knowledge by examining the past. While the content of each assignment is unique, the writing experiences are similarly positioned to allow you the opportunity to improve your argumentative writing process and your critical analysis skills.The Blog Post and the Policy Analysis are the culmination of your understanding of the Battles in Education

This assignment aims to synthesize historical, educational perspectives/philosophies and relate them to current educational practices/philosophies. You will complete this assignment by completing a 400–500-word letter to the PTA of elementary school ABC located in a rural area in Florida. The parents have been examining the school’s philosophical ideals, curricular practices, and district policies. They are eager to participate in any conversations about improving the educational opportunities for the children but want to be informed. You will be evaluated on your articulation of your point of view and the comprehensiveness of your response.

Form

You are to watch the embedded ED Battle Video and read the assigned materials in the module. The ED Battle defines educational thought, philosophy, theory, ideology, and education structure. After watching the video, you will write a 400–500-word letter to the PTA of elementary school ABC in a rural Florida area. The parents have been examining the school’s philosophical ideals, curricular practices, and district policies. Ed Battle #1

ED Battle #1 describes a historical perspective of education ideologies. While the present-day philosophies may not be precisely the word-for-word same as Scholasticism and Rationalism, similar themes guide education decisions today. How do scholasticism and rationalism present themselves in today’s public schools?

NOTE: You CANNOT choose “both” or make arguments for “BOTH”. You MUST choose one or the other. Please address the following items in your letter.

• Which ideology from the Battle seems dominant in schools today?
• Articulate why the particular ideology (from #1) is dominant in ABC Elementary School’s curriculum (assume it is just the same as your educational experience).
• What education policy or law (current or past) supports your response to #2 that the parents can reference during their school discussions? Define why this policy represents support for your choice in #1.
