Getting Started

Throughout this course, you will have the opportunity to discuss project management concepts, such as the skills and strengths most pertinent for successful project managers, with your classmates and your instructor. In this workshop, you will submit a discussion post sharing qualities of project managers that may impact resource management and project performance.

Upon successful completion of this discussion, you will be able to:

Background Information

Now that you understand that project leaders must possess a unique skillset, you will reflect upon how a specific set of qualities may aid a project manager in achieving success and managing talent. The qualities or competencies may be aligned with the individual skills assessments you completed, or they may be tied to the project management knowledge areas you’ve explored. You will briefly describe the three PM qualities and share how, if those qualities were missing, they would impact project performance or hinder a project manager’s ability to effectively manage resources.


Instructions

  1. Review the rubric to make sure you understand the criteria for earning your grade.
  2. Read the Introduction and Alignment and the Background Information sections.
  3. In Agile Fundamentals: A Comprehensive Guide to Using an Agile Approach, read the following:
    1. Chapter 4: Agile Leadership Overview, Management vs. Leadership
  4. Watch the following videos:

  5. Navigate to the discussion thread and respond to the following prompts:
    1. Choose three PM qualities that will have a negative impact, particularly upon resource management and project performance, if they are missing from a project manager’s toolbox.
    2. What will be the impact on your project?
  6. In contrast to some of your prior courses, your initial post is due Day Three of the workshop, not Day Four.
  7. Your initial post should be a minimum of 200 words and at least one response.
  8. Read and respond to at least two of your classmates’ postings, as well as instructor follow-up questions directed to you, by the end of the workshop. Responses should be at least 100 points.
  9. Use headings to organize your answers so that it is clear to which question(s) you are replying and to facilitate your classmates’ responses and any questions from your instructor.
  10. Your postings also should:
    1. Be well developed by providing clear answers with evidence of critical thinking.
    2. Add greater depth to the discussion by introducing new ideas.
    3. Provide clarification to classmates’ questions and provide insight into the discussion.
