Assignment #7 Unit 3 ELP Introduction

14 February 2017

Lisa,

The assessment chart is first and followed by your work with the corrections highlighted in yellow. Explanations are in red print.

Following your Works Cited source is the corrected Introduction without the highlighted yellow words and red print.

As an observation, it is best to write short and concise sentences in your own words. Avoid the use of extra words to begin a sentence or within a sentence. Be sure that you understand the meaning of all words and phrases before using them in a sentence. Direct quotations must be cited and have quotation marks.

As reminder, carefully read all directions for the ELP. There is a folder on the Home Page with information on the organization and structure of the ELP-Paper.

I sent the “Assessment Key and Information” document attached to a course message. That document contains rules for grammar and punctuation. Numbers following a correction correspond to the numbers of the items in the “Assessment Key and Information.”

Good luck on your ELP-Journey, JL

COMMENTS: The Introduction contained all of the required components.

There are corrections and suggestions in the document’s comments and in the assessment chart.

For this Introduction assignment, points are not deducted for the requested corrections. However, In the Body of Research and Summary assignments, I would not expect to see anything that has been noted in this assignment to be corrected.

SUGGESTIONS:

1. Select a tense (ie present or past) to be the “voice” for your entire paper. Since the entire paper will be a paper on the research that you have completed, the entire paper can be in the past tense. – Whatever tense you decide to use should be used throughout the paper.

2. All expert research must be cited with in-text citations in MLA Format. Each in-text citation would correspond to a full citation on the Works Cited page. Do not forget that MLA Format requires page numbers.

RULES FOR IN-TEXT CITATION:

Introduction

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was a prolific as well as (the = take out extra word) one of the most celebrated composers of Classical music (Keefe et al. 66). (Not MLA-Format = Keefe, et.al, pg, 66 – MLA-Format = https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/747/02/). His music stands as an archetypal example of the Classical style. Research indicates that his works spanned the period during which that style transformed from one exemplified by the style galant hence; incorporated some of the contrapuntal complexities. (See the suggested wording) As stated, 2 Mozart was a versatile composer as well and wrote in almost every major genre (, = no comma) including symphony, opera, the solo concerto, chamber music including string quartets, and the piano sonata. Mozart expressed his great talent as a versatile classical musical composer.

The punctuation in the sentence was not correct. This style is the overlapping of an old style and a new style. – Suggested rewording: Research indicates that his works spanned the period during which his style was transformed from one exemplified by the galant style, which incorporated some of the contrapuntal complexities (In-text citation of the source is needed).

One of the main rationales for doing this Experiential Learning Project was to learn and get to know more about this artist. Basically, 2 (; = no semi-colon) this writer (we = write only in the third person. We is the first person plural) can say that the goal is to educate the reader on the rise of this artist and a few challenges that he experienced in his life. This writer will learn how he would emerge to be the world’s composer of classical music.

The following should be eliminated since it has nothing to do with your rationale for research. Also, you would not cite the sentences about your rationale.

(Keefe, et.al, pg, 101). It is apparent that Mozart’s music has uncomplicated texture that would become a defining trait of the “Classical” era. This type or kind of style which is commonly known as homophonic music is characterized by a single melodic idea accompanied by a choral underpinning which makes his music a classic.

(Remove extra words = In the quest to collect expert research;) The design of the research for this project was based on books and journal. This included analyzing expert works for Mozart through experiencing the great works by (for) Mozart as a versatile classical musical composer. (Remove the following: as depicted in the journals as well as books that I have used in this essay.) (Remove extra word and semi-colon is not correct – Lastly;) The ELP-Experiential Research Data Entries contain the personal research of the writer of this paper. All research was conducted from January 28th to March 20th, 2017. (Give yourself more time because you may need to revise work).
