You will have a total of four subscores (public speaking, interpersonal, meetings, and groups). Whichever score is the highest is the one communication situation in which you are more apprehensive. What I would like you to do is the following:

a. list the area that you were the highest in (you do NOT need to tell us the official score unless you want to). So, I should see you listing public speaking, interpersonal, meetings, or groups here.

b. Explain the communication apprehension behaviors that you exhibited in that area by using the terminology given in the book (communication avoidance, communication minimization/withdrawal, communication disruption or cognitive interference) for that subscore. For example, if you scored highest in public speaking then tell me about the apprehension behaviors that you have experienced. You may have had communication minimization when you were forced to do a speech but then decided to only talk for a minute instead of the required amount of time. My expectation is that you will provide a full paragraph here and use specific examples to demonstrate the apprehensive behaviors AND that you will use the terminology when writing your paragraph. NOTE: If you have a tie for your highest sub-score, then please state that. Then pick the one you believe is the highest and continue with the assessment.

2. Chapter Seven: Pick ONE of the stages. Define the stage. Then give ONE example of verbal (words used) communication and ONE example of non-verbal (eye contact, facial expressions, gestures, distance, posture, touch, etc…) communication used in the stage. NOTE: IF SOMEONE ELSE USES THE SAME STAGE AS YOU, DO NOT USE THEIR EXAMPLES. I WILL CHECK. I WILL NOT GIVE CREDIT FOR REPEAT EXAMPLES. There are 10 stages. So stages will need to be used more than once. There are MANY examples of verbal and nonverbal communication that happens in each stage. So, there shouldn’t be duplicates. Please note that the book may not provide verbal and nonverbal examples for each stage. Thus, you may need to think about the stage and come up with your own examples of what happens in that stage. For this answer you really only need 3 sentences.

3. Chapter Eight: Affinity seeking is a learned skill. Affinity seeking is about getting people to like you. Please explain one thing that people could do to get you to like them more. Then explain one thing that people could do to make you like them less. Just a paragraph is expected here.
