“Nurses play critical roles in advocating for policy that impacts patients and the profession, especially when speaking with a united voice on issues that affect nursing practice and health outcomes. Nurses can have a profound influence on health policy by becoming engaged in the policy process on many levels, which includes interpreting, evaluating, and leading policy change” (AACN, 2023, para 1).

Now that you have researched a bill of interest and were an activist for this important community related issue with your political representative through formal letter writing, share what you have learned about this same topic, in a more in-depth manner, and what other strategies would you use to advocate for or against this legislation with your peers in this discussion.

1. Introduce the bill of interest that is important to your own community.
   • Who is the legislator responsible for the bill. Ensure the bill under discussion is currently on the legislator’s agenda.
   • State the title of bill, bill number, and where the bill currently is in the legislative process.
   • Identify how the stakeholders of the bill will be impacted.
2. Summarize the intent of the bill in relation to socio-cultural, economic, political, and legal variables.
3. Discuss the specific strategies you would use to advocate either for or against the bill.
4. Explain how one or more of the provisions, found in the The Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements (2015), were the foundation that shaped your professional responsibilities in the advocacy process.

Support your discussion post with relevant information from at least two scholarly journal articles in addition to the assigned readings, textbooks, and relevant websites.
