I believe that the terms “ethics” and “morals” can be used interchangeably, but it is dependent on the context. In some situations, they may indeed have nuanced differences. Johnson’s (2021) perspective of using the terms interchangeably can been seen as a way of simplifying discussions and to emphasize that both ethics and morals refer to principles that guide human conduct. On the other hand, R. C. Sproul’s viewpoint provides a more detailed framework for analyzing human behaviors, norms and what is right from wrong with ethics being considered as individual aspirations and morals being the accepted societal behaviors. Morals help us to explain the behaviors of individuals or groups of people and how they behave within societal norms (Chowdhury, 2018). The idea of morality allows us to consider various perspectives of what is right or wrong which leads to the examples in the Khan Academy Medicine video that references Ghandhi and Martin Luther King Jr who both challenged the ethics, set of rules and aspirations set by a group, by standing up for the morality of humankind.
