A clinical interview with Mr. Johnson, recently diagnosed with schizophrenia, should begin with the question, “What shall we talk about today?” for several reasons: First, the sentence is not frightening. Using non-threatening language can assist in creating a sense of security and trust for those with schizophrenia who could suffer paranoia or delusions (Laws et al., 2018). This sentence avoids putting themes on Mr. Johnson and lessens the possibility of setting off any upsetting feelings or ideas. Second, this statement takes a person-centered approach, emphasizing Mr. Johnson’s choices and letting him participate actively in the discussion. It respects his freedom of choice and autonomy, which is crucial in mental health nursing, particularly when working with patients who might have trouble expressing themselves or having their cognitive processes affected (Pardede & Laia, 2020). Third, the statement is open-ended, allowing Mr. Johnson to select the subject he feels most comfortable discussing. This strategy can assist him in developing a connection with the nurse over time and participating in the therapy process at his speed.

When dealing with patients diagnosed with schizophrenia, the nurse should speak to the patient in a straightforward, concrete manner for various reasons. Schizophrenia patients may misunderstand or infer hidden meanings from messages (St?pnicki et al., 2018). Using simple language reduces the possibility of misunderstandings or the client being suspicious of the nurse’s motives. Cognitive abilities and mental processes can be impacted by schizophrenia. Therefore, using cryptic or abstract language might mislead the customer and prevent clear communication (McCutcheon et al., 2020). Clients are more likely to grasp messages that are clear and concise.

In this particular instance, ethical considerations consist of getting Mr. Johnson’s informed consent before beginning any treatments or interventions, protecting the privacy of his personal information and clinical data, and abiding by the duty of care, which entails giving the patient the best care possible while respecting his autonomy and rights.

This assignment has highlighted the value of person-centered care, transparent communication, and ethical standards in mental health nursing. It has emphasized the importance of flexibility and sensitivity while working with those who have mental health disorders (Chivilgina et al., 2021). These concepts will greatly influence my future profession because they will teach me how to treat every patient with empathy, respect, and dedication to their welfare while respecting ethical standards in all care areas.
