• Does the essay make clear arguments to support its claim?
• Does the text end with a clear and compelling summary of the argument and the
recommended policy option?
Citations (20 points)
• Does the essay support its argument through logic or citations? Are factual statements
backed by external sources?
• Do sources appear to be reputable? (i.e., academic publishers, major publishers,
government sources, respected nonprofits, international organizations, or media
outlets?)
Style and Word Choice (20 points)
• Is the essay free of careless grammatical errors and does it follow the formal guidelines?
• Does the essay use clear and direct language?
• Is the essay within the word limit? (max 850)
