Overview

Throughout this program, you will be encouraged to think critically about your own personal leadership style and identity as a sport management professional. In this course, you have examined several management models and theories. You have also discussed the strengths and weaknesses of leadership models and theories. In particular, you have considered the distinction between management and leadership, the value of diversity of thought in sport organizations, and the importance of being a systems thinker when making operational decisions. Now, you should draw conclusions about these concepts in order to begin shaping your own personal philosophy of leadership as a sport management professional.

In this assessment, you will select a scholarly article or several articles that center on management and leadership issues within the world of sport business. The number of articles you select is your choice, as long as you have enough material to fully answer the questions in the prompt below. Your task will be to compare and contrast your own viewpoints developed during the course on effective management and leadership with the perspectives and information in the article(s). You will submit your work in the form of a journal on sport management. The final product will be submitted in Module Seven.

In this assignment, you will demonstrate your mastery of the following course outcome:

• Develop fundamental positions regarding operations management models that inform one’s own leadership style as a systems thinker and sport management professional

Specifically, the following critical elements must be addressed:

1. Describe the theories and models of management and/or leadership described in the article(s). Provide examples of each to illustrate.
2. Discuss the difference between managers and leaders in sport organizations. Be sure to explain to what extent your article(s) support your claim.
3. Explain your position on diversity of thought in sport hiring practices. Be sure to explain to what extent your article(s) support your claim.
4. Clarify your opinion on why systems thinking is an important approach in organizational decision making in sport management. Be sure to explain to what extent your article(s) support your claim.
5. Based on your personal experiences, your coursework and your article(s), detail the ongoing development of your personal leadership style and professional identity in the sport management industry.

Submission

Final Submission: Journal on Sport Management
In Module Seven, you will submit Final Project Two. It should be a complete, polished artifact containing all of the critical elements of the final product. It should reflect the incorporation of feedback gained throughout the course. This submission will be graded with the Final Project Two Rubric.

What to Submit

Your paper should be 2 pages in length and should use 12-point Times New Roman font, double spacing, and one-inch margins. Sources should be cited according to APA style.
